Down by the Trestle

by Dave Schipper © 2006 Rose Riversongs

Down by the trestle is a mighty fine place
The river bends at a very slow pace
We met at the top of the hill that night
I said once, twice, you were such a site

Take me down the path in hand
Lead me to another land
A summer’s love one night stand
Maybe you’ll take me again

You had on jeans cut right to the top
With a smile and giggle that wouldn’t stop
God had placed a weird angel on earth
A little twisted but my prayers heard.

Take me down the path in hand
Lead me to another land
A summer’s love one night stand
Maybe you’ll take me again

To this day a railroad bridge takes me back
Meant more to me than a roll in the sack
Some day I’ll stand in that heavenly line
Sure to see you there looking mighty fine.

Hi, I'm just curious how you found my blog. I'm new at this and trying to figure out the things that people look for and how they look, to find a blog to follow.

Nice poetry/songwriting.

Hey Paul... HI back... interesting blog you have.

Hey Rae Bell, I believe you are one of the few people who list Audrey Auld as a favorite musician. If you click on the artist blogger shows you who else has the same tastes. Audrey might play at my house concert series some day... cool eh, she'll be the first Aussie I'll have as a guest.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did notice that about clicking on things that are underlined.

The first time I saw Audrey Auld must have been approximately 5 or 6 years ago. My husband and I went to see Fred Eaglesmith down near Sacramento. (I don't even remember exactly where it was now) We did not know who Audrey was nor did we know he had an openning act. When we got to the concert she was already playing so we didn't hear her introduction. I asked my husband "Doesn't she remind you of my Aunt Eydie?" He said "yep" (Eydie is my mother's youngest sister) At the end of the set when her name was announced we just looked at each other. You see my mom's name was Audrey! I did tell Audrey the story several years later when we saw her play in Grass Valley. She said her mother is named Audrey too. My mother passed on in 1995 at the young age of 50.

Great story Rae...

Sorry about the loss of your mother so early... mine's getting a pace maker next week, and she's 82.
