Letting Go

Letting go is hard, so I refuse

Instead I hold on, and choose

To keep in a pocket all day

The chance I’ll have time to replay

A memory that is so near

That sharing it I would fear

To upset the people around

And others it would astound.

So I will not let go for a while

The memory picture of your smile

The sound of your voice

Yes it’s a personal choice.

Just another...

He’s sitting alone in the coffee shop

Laptop open blank stare on his face

Waitin’ for the night’s entrée

Fall salad with a slice of disgrace

He hadn’t fallen, he never got on top

She hadn’t stolen, the heart she dropped

Just another case of love at the coffee shop

She sighs a smile as they make up their mind

Her thoughts a mere table away

Silently he sits staring into space

            His midnight eyes never stray

She hasn’t fallen, she rarely gets up

He hasn’t broken, the fumbled cup

Just another case of love at the coffee shop

The door opens in this crowded café

Both look up from their spots

Another story line enters the room

            Bringing answers, or maybe not.

They haven’t fallen, just playing their parts.

No love stolen, and no broken hearts

Just a lost case of love at the coffee shop

Angel of David

The Angel of David does just exists in his mind.
She takes many forms but always easily kind
She wraps him in tinder silently waits for the spark
Her long hair flowing and eyes so mysteriously dark

She looks so entitled, but it does not relate to her past.
She scorns all the trends and stick with style that lasts.
So remarkably holy yet she never attempts to deploy.
Her soul touch your eyes and you’re just left to comply

The Angel of David is not given to fly
Nor is she is seen from on high
Oh my this Angel whispers light
Her hair disappearing in the night
The Angel of David sings her psalm
A heart’s lament bringing calm

She comes to visit and talk you down from dreaded sorrow
With words that simmer inside and warm you thru tomorrow
An angel of mercy, grace and passion, please hear her sing
Be with her now in silence, and love long until the morning.

Black eyes

When you come to me with those black eyes
You hide the meaning with your sweet smile.
You talk of the future with the green fields
But I sit pummeled by the power that you yield.

Twisted branches trees entwined
Never meant to be side by side
Sprouts of life choked with a vine
Awaits the gardener to divide.

Words are math to the market fool
You slip and slide between obscure and real
Then a reset for a calculated change
So I step into a world pre-arranged.

Twisted branches trees entwined
Never meant to be side by side
Sprouts injected with seeds of life
Awaits the gardener to make thrive.

The blackest of night falls on this eve
The smile is hidden from all to see
No talk of the future or green fields to be
Yes, the north wind chills the leaves of green.

Twisted branches trees entwined
Never meant to be side by side
Sprouts of life choked with a vine
Awaits the gardener to divide.

A poet's encounter

It was fate that we chance to meet
A poet in a business suit
A young reporter on her beat

The story was told before
Though each year it’s played fresh
A new face to find out what’s in store

You came in with a flash of a smile
And quickly I could tell you were in charge
Angles, storylines, characters in your style

To look at her was like a gene pool mirror
Stature, dark hair and Lady Mary eyes
I didn’t mind the hard task of standing nearer.

So refreshing with someone young and smart
To find have some nerdy connections
And the conversations were so easy to start.

Time always needs to end and to be honest,
Never usually to be seen again.
This time, an offer of a “follow” promised.

And there it was.
Thanks

Lady Rose, an English flower

From the start the dainty brown eye’d belle
Swayed her blonde mane with confidence
Alerting the room, and casting her spell

She hid no pretense of her Mum’s ire
The floor was her stage to fill with love
She surveyed the room to focus her desire

This Lady Rose is our English flower
This Lady Rose can sweeten any sour
This Lady Rose is bud to hold
But if you can, it would be passion untold.

With luck, twas I who drew her peer
She approached with a bounce of delight
As I quickly melted when she drew near

This Lady Rose was fine with no façade
Each breath and word spoken honest
That moment, felt as if it was an act of God.

This Lady Rose is our English flower
This Lady Rose can sweeten any sour
This Lady Rose is bud to hold
But if you can, it would be passion untold.

As a petal flutters in the wind, Rose left
There was no display, no reason given
Her life was too large for any bereft

She came into my heart and pumped life
And that spirit did not leave with her
Real compassion in each day now is rife.

This Lady Rose is our English flower
This Lady Rose can sweeten any sour
This Lady Rose was tender to hold
And I did it with passion untold.

I don't follow the rules.

My hope is that we all feel a little like this once in a while.

I write within the lines
and scribble in the margins.
I am partners with great software
But curse many hardware stores.
I look down to catch beautiful curves
And love to look up into eyes.
I am worthless pile of skin and bones
But I’m loved by the innocent.
I will wake with a smile on my face
And I will die content.
Especially if you are smiling now.

Dance Tonight

The dance of the life, the chance of time
Ages of man women have written
Pages and pages filled with rhyme
Still the real bells and whistles simple
A wink of an eye, a glance from behind
To blink you’d miss it, a lover’s symbol

Chorus
So take this dance with me tonight
My hand gentle on your back
Keep me in your constant in your site
As we dance, we dance thru the night

You hair pulled high all the fabric pressed
The music begins and the crowd stirs a start
Cruising the floor in you red dress
Your skin so white, your eyes so dark
Unclench my soul be still my heart
I would be yours, please drop your guard.

So mark the time …that song did end
A pregnant pause a silent bow
We left the floor hand in hand
A with a toast … our life began
A blend red a black and tan
We started life a lady and her man.
